Some people take on home-improvement projects themselves because interior design is their passion. Often, though, saving some money is what leads people to become DIY pros. That was certainly the case for Yeli Heidecker and her husband when they built a tiny home for her mom in the fall of 2025. By doing much of the work on the home themselves, the Heidecker family saved about $30,000 on the project. Heidecker, 32, lives in central Texas with her husband and four children, ranging in age from 5
