UN rights chief issues wake-up call on Gaza as global conflicts spiral

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned on Tuesday (Jun 17) that global conflicts are spiralling. Turk’s assessment came at the opening of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council. He said warfare in Gaza has inflicted "unconscionable" suffering and called for the return of all Israeli hostages. He also highlighted the economic toll from the trade war caused by United States tariffs and the humanitarian cost from aid funding cuts. William Denselow reports from
