Minnesota Democrat Tina Smith endorsed Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan over Representative Angie Craig to succeed her in the U.S. Senate on Monday in a race Republicans are hoping to make competitive in the midterm elections later this year. Flanagan said in a press release that she “would be deeply honored to carry her work forward in the United States Senate.” In a statement to Newsweek, a Craig spokesperson said the congresswoman would be “the best candidate to keep this seat blue.”
