Premier Giorgia Meloni on Friday voiced solidarity for Elly Schlein, the leader of the opposition, centre-left Democratic Party (PD), after a local councillor for the right-wing League party called for her to be run over. The League has suspended Debora Piazza, a councillor in the province of Lecco town of Barzanò, after she suggested someone should imitate the man who rammed his car into pedestrians in Modena last weekend at a rally Schlein was attending in Lecco in view of local elections.
