A Republican has won a special election for the Virginia House of Delegates with an overperformace bucking a recent trend of Democrats making gains in GOP-held seats, according to unofficial results. As of 1am E.T., Andrew Rice had secured 62.46 percent of the vote in the election for House District 98 compared to Democrat Cheryl Smith's 37.5 percent with more than 11,000 votes counted.
