Voters in EU member state Slovenia (pop. 2 million) will elect a new parliament on March 22.  Key issues in the campaign so far include the economy, democratic standards and human rights. Although the race is tight, opinion polls put conservative forces ahead.  With polls indicating a knife-edge race, the final outcome could reshape not only the country's domestic political orientation but also impact the European Union by affecting alliances within the bloc and the balance of power in Brussels.
