Brent Lutes is an applied economist whose current research focuses on creative industries and the creative economy, the economics of artificial intelligence policy, intellectual property (IP) strategy, and copyright policy. Dr. Lutes currently serves as the first Chief Economist for the United States Copyright Office (USCO). After his initial appointment, Dr. Lutes formally established and staffed the USCO’s Office of the Chief Economist, with a mandate to expand the body of economic research
