Science fiction is a peculiar genre. It's delivered some of cinema 's finest masterpieces, yet tracking down a truly excellent one can feel like hard work when you're forced to sift through countless Star Wars follow-ups and effects-laden blockbusters that are all style and no substance. It's tempting to write off anything featuring spaceships and extraterrestrials, but Project Hail Mary demonstrates the genre still has masses to give, and it's become my top film of the year. I'll admit I was
