A second US warplane is understood to have crashed in the Persian Gulf region today, with the pilot safely ejecting over the sea. The A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, known as the Warthog, went down near the Strait of Hormuz around the same time as an F-15 was shot down over Iran , two officials told The New York Times. The pilot of the single-seat aircraft was rescued by US forces. The officials did not provide further details on the circumstances of the crash. Iranian state TV reported
