Once again, the state Board of Regents is undermining education standards, this time by creating an “path” to a high-school diploma that doesn’t rely on schooling. It’s part of the drive to junk proficiency measures, such as the Regents exams that have been the core requirement for the last century, in favor of a falsely-named “competency-based” approach that relies on projects, portfolios, and “work-based learning” such as apprenticeships.
