Italy's trade surplus with the United States dropped to 34.190 billion euros in 2025, down from 38.868 billion in 2024, according to Istat data released on Thursday. US President Donald Trump's administration started imposing 15% tariffs on EU goods in August. The national statistics agency said the fall in the surplus was driven by a 35.9% increase in imports from the US. It said exports to the US increased by 7.2% last year.
