Bangladesh to hold referendum on landmark democratic reform charter

Referendum

Bangladesh is set to hold a referendum on a landmark democratic reform charter, drafted after last year's student-led uprising. The July Charter seeks to reshape the nation's politics and institutions. Proposals include strengthening checks on powers and adding a two-term limit for prime ministers. The referendum is set to take place on the same day as parliamentary elections next February. Zahirul Alam reports from Dhaka.
