Suspended Labour MP Andrew Gwynne has announced he will stand down as an MP for medical reasons. It paves the way for Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to potentially run in a by-election in the Gorton and Denton constituency. It came as as Mr Burnham has insisted he is "in the dark" over reports a suspended Labour MP was on the brink of resigning from the Commons. Mr Gwynne was sacked as a minister and suspended from the Labour Party last year over offensive messages in a WhatsApp group
