A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from enforcing a policy that required members of Congress to provide seven days’ notice before visiting immigration detention facilities, ruling that it likely violates appropriations law. U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb granted a temporary restraining order on February 2, 2026, siding with the lawmakers who argued that the notice requirement unlawfully interfered with their ability to conduct oversight.
